Gone south for a few

So I’m laying here and it’s 00:30. We got here about 20 minutes ago. I will be up at 09:00 to start the yard work that needs to be done. We drove down using E85 fuel in the truck. I figure right now that we used abt an extra 1/8th of a tank than if we had used regular unleaded. We also brought 10 extra gallons along with us.

Some times I wonder why I keep this place. And then I think about the possibility of hard times and it is free and clear after all.

I remember the first time I came here in 1978. My mom had bought it with the intent of fixing it up with her Cajun boyfriend Don. He was a good man. My mom never managed to stay with the good ones for very long. I liked Don. He took me squirrel hunting and would have also taken me deer hunting if they had managed to stay together. They broke up and he married some other woman and eventually took his own life. I met his brother when I first moved back in 08. Turns out he was the gas man that came out to turn my gas on.

Mom gave me the place in 1986. I never did think of it as mine until after she passed in 07′ But here I am taking care of it. I remember when I was growing up that I hated mowing the place. Mom would pay me $20 and I would turn around and hire a local black boy to mow it for $13, $5 for the front and $8 for the back. Free enterprise at it’s finest.

My sister was married here to her second husband in 79. I remember flying to Santa Fe where she was going to school and drivng back with her in her VW Bug. We took a detour through the grave yard just down the street when we got here. She was screaming for God to forgive her as she ran over a couple of graves. I was laughing my ass off. I was such an obnoxious shit when I was 16 getting ready turn 17.

Well, it is 01:00 and I do need to get up early. More tomorrow.

Strider on the go!
