{"id":1663,"date":"2023-05-21T18:14:06","date_gmt":"2023-05-21T23:14:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gifnet.us\/?p=1663"},"modified":"2023-05-21T18:25:14","modified_gmt":"2023-05-21T23:25:14","slug":"observatory-session-from-4-16-23-to-4-19-23-m101-a-super-nova-a-blast-from-the-past","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gifnet.us\/?p=1663","title":{"rendered":"Observatory Session 4\/16\/23 to 4\/19\/23 &#8211; M101 &#8211; A Super Nova &#8211; A Blast From The Past"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I randomly picked a target last month, Messier 101 to image over a couple of days.&nbsp; What a lucky pick!&nbsp; I caught a super nova in it&#8217;s infancy that started over 21 million years ago and I caught some of it with the T3i and the C8 at 1565mm focal length.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"vlp-link-container vlp-layout-basic\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aavso.org\/sn-2023ixf-m101\" class=\"vlp-link\" title=\"SN 2023ixf in M101 | aavso\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><div class=\"vlp-layout-zone-side\"><div class=\"vlp-block-2 vlp-link-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.aavso.org\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/user_picture_small\/public\/pictures\/picture-4819.jpg?itok=7Omeibz2\" style=\"max-width: 150px; max-height: 150px\" \/><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vlp-layout-zone-main\"><div class=\"vlp-block-0 vlp-link-title\">SN 2023ixf in M101 | aavso<\/div><div class=\"vlp-block-1 vlp-link-summary\">Affiliation<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Now isn&#8217;t that the bomb, literally!&nbsp; I&#8217;m processing it now, and I have the location of the star that went super nova.&nbsp; At the time, the magnitude of the explosion was 14.9, and I caught a smudge where the star is or was. I have over 11 hours of data in 300 second subs.<\/p>\n<p>Magnitude estimates are now at 11.4, well within the C8&#8217;s limiting magnitude of 14.
