{"id":1458,"date":"2021-08-09T18:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-08-09T23:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gifnet.us\/?p=1458"},"modified":"2021-08-21T15:22:56","modified_gmt":"2021-08-21T20:22:56","slug":"astronomy-report-08-09-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gifnet.us\/?p=1458","title":{"rendered":"Astronomy Report &#8211; 08-09-21 &#8211; What Went Wrong the 24th"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Spent the evening working out what went wrong on the 24<sup>th<\/sup> with PC control.&nbsp; At first I thought it might have been a power problem with Orion Dynamo Pro.&nbsp; Voltage being applied to the mount was 10 volts and the docs said 11 volts was minimum.&nbsp; I tried using a car jump batter that was providing 11.5 volts, still nothing so that ruled out power.&nbsp; I actually had it working back in June but obviously had forgotten what I had done.&nbsp; I spent the next hour searching the Internet for clues to what the issue might be.&nbsp; Most everything was talking about connecting the PC using a serial to USB cable to the hand controller via it\u2019s serial connection, however mine has a USB port on it.&nbsp; I stumbled across a post on Cloudy Nights that talked about the newer version of the EQ6-R Pro that had USB port and the mount that had a USB port on it, mine!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I spent the next hour figuring out just how to connect it all up.&nbsp; I took the hand controller completely out of the picture and connected the PC directly to the mount.&nbsp; Confirmed ASCOM drives were loaded on the PC and configured.&nbsp; I then brought up Syn Scan Pro and it connected.&nbsp; Stellarium was next, configured the telescope to External Software, it connected and slewed.&nbsp; Note that I had to hold the ctrl or alt key and the telescope number down for a second or two before the mount responded.&nbsp; Part of my problem was that on the PC, nothing was an immediate response since I was connected just like I would be in the field, my laptop and the mount PC connected to my phone\u2019s hotspot then I connect via remote terminal, hence the slow response.&nbsp; I can think of ways to speed that up but that\u2019s not my focus tonight, the tech in me always comes out.&nbsp; Next was PHD2 Guiding, configured for SynScan App and connected.
